The art of designing the rooms in a home, particularly the kitchen, in an age of eco-friendly materials and ever-changing technology is one that requires an innovative approach. Arclinea San Diego, which just opened on the northern fringe of downtown, has mastered this task. Italian architect Antonio Citterio infuses his renowned expertise into customized layouts that transform residential kitchens into interactive, comfortable areas for socializing. As Citterio says, “Cooking becomes a part of being together and socializing; a kitchen should cater to both cooking and a continual interlacing of relationships.” The company’s motto reflects this belief: “Where the kitchen is the home, it is the home which revolves around the kitchen.”
An initial visit to the company’s full-service showroom provides examples of what the team here can produce once an initial custom design comes back from its headquarters in Italy. Popular designs encompass countertops in stainless steel or marble, covering easy-to-access storage units that are cleverly hidden beneath clean lines and modern accents. Founded in 1925, Arclinea boasts showrooms in 29 countries across the globe. Here’s a chance to spruce up the kitchen with a little Italian flair without having to dust off that passport.
