Since 2006: Celebrating Five Years of Award-Winning Design + Client Service

What's New: The Metamorphic Kitchen
Italy's Leader in Innovation Introduces Newest Design Concepts at Milan Fair

April 2006 — Caldogno, Italy — “Where the kitchen is the home, it is the home which revolves around the kitchen,” shares architect Antonio Citterio, the award-winning designer of the Arclinea Collection of contemporary, Italian kitchens. That is why the Arclinea Stand at Eurocucina was conceived as a great space, a space that gravitates into individually furnished and lived-in environments. The company’s presentation at the international design exhibition offered examples of spatial exploitation around the real focus of attention: the kitchen, itself.

“At this year’s Eurocucina Fair, visitors experienced genuine domestic environments, as only the English word “home” can express,” shares Lisa Wilson-Wirth, president & owner of Arclinea San Diego, a full-service kitchen design firm and exclusive distributor of the Arclinea Collection. “Our firm’s kitchen designs are increasingly integrally linked to the overall architecture of the project. If Arclinea kitchens have traditionally been considered ‘furnishing kitchens’ today more than ever they are solution designs, profoundly linked to the overall project they affect by playing starring roles in it.”

To this end, Arclinea introduces a concept associated with the most contemporary aspiration for environmental value — the “metamorphic kitchen,” one that varies according to need and mutates from static to dynamic, depending on user and use. “This is the third road Arclinea has traveled,” says Ms. Wilson-Wirth. “After its professional kitchen (Arclinea’s Artusi & Italia kitchens) and the ritual kitchen (Arclinea’s Convivium kitchen), here is the kitchen that captures both.”

This continued evolution of the kitchen as a fully functioning living space elegantly supporting the social activities of the home is possible due to the introduction of technology applied in unique combinations — hidden technology with benefits easily enjoyed. Key Arclinea product introductions at the Eurocucina design fair include

Hydraulic systems are changing the functional makeup of the working and social areas of the island. Introduced in Arclinea’s exclusive “Up-Down” Convivium table, hydrodynamic systems allow the user to easily raise or lower the island’s integrated dining table with the simple push of a button — from dining height to ergonomic work surface, and vice versa

Effective extraction from the hob — Advances in downdraft ventilation allow for the user to retain full functionality while maintaining the elegance of a real living room, a room to look at, use and inhabit. With high power, low noise and a hidden profile when not in use, Arclinea’s new downdraft ventilation, in stainless steel and glass, allows the kitchen to retain the elegance of a real living room, in which to entertain and enjoy.

An indoor miniature greenhouse featuring low-consumption (and eco-friendly) LEDs is integrated to stainless steel shelving and below wall units, creating the perfect environment for aromatic herbs and plants to grow and flourish indoors, within a cook’s ready reach.

The all-in-one Island is a refined extension of one’s living room, available in custom lengths up to 25 feet. Accommodating multiple functions and cooks, the design maximizes the space-function relationship. Every critical function and appliance is housed in a single dynamic unit.

With a lineage of craftsmanship dating back to 1925, technology and solid creativity are the two complementary concepts fundamental to the Arclinea kitchen concept. The company is a regular exhibitor at the bi-annual Eurocucina exhibition, which is held in tandem with the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. Shortly after dedicating all its production energy to kitchen furniture in 1960, Arclinea’s success was conferred by the public and experts alike at the Milan Trade Fair of 1963, when the company introduced its Claudia kitchen — the first Italian kitchen with built-in appliances. In the years that followed, Arclinea has continued to distinguish itself internationally, winning numerous design awards including the Metropolitan Home Modernism Award and the Elle Décor Edida.

Designed and coordinated by the internationally celebrated architect Antonio Citterio, the Arclinea Collection borrows features from professional kitchens — such as generous work surfaces, separate but connected work zones, and easy accessibility of tools and equipment — and integrates them seamlessly into the home. The newest product innovations will be available from Arclinea San Diego starting in October 2006.
