Italy’s leader in innovation offers a stunning interpretation of the modern kitchen in its design for the historic
“Villa Firenze” estate.
December 18, 2008 —Arclinea, manufacturer of the award-winning Arclinea Collection is pleased to announce its recent project: a landmark kitchen for the Italian Embassy in Washington, D.C. The kitchen in the historic “Tudor-style” residence (built 1927), known as “Villa Firenze,” has been extensively remodeled by Arclinea and Scholtès, two internationally renowned companies working in collaboration to create a place in which Italian tradition and innovative design are fully realized down to the smallest of details.
Plans for the project were instigated by the Italian Embassy’s sincere desire to make the building a special place for promoting the best of Italy, with the goal of creating a showcase for the leading innovators in Italian design. Having begun by furnishing Embassy offices with products from some of Italy’s best-known manufacturers, this desire could only by consummated with the design of an “Italian kitchen” in the Embassy residence—a cucina that would incorporate the highest possible quality and functional solution in a dedicated space.
The selection of Arclinea was natural, due to the company’s uncompromising commitment to creative technology and uncompromising quality. The choice of Arclinea’s Italia kitchen concept, designed by architect Antonio Citterio, was equally as deliberate as the very name given this kitchen concept at its conceptual stage symbolizes what was intended to be expressed and demonstrated to each of the Villa’s countless guests. Arclinea selected Scholtès as its partner to study the layout and provide the worktops and kitchen appliances, as it is equally a brand of the highest lineage with manufacturing levels of absolute quality—and because, like Arclinea, they have proven expertise in carrying out tailor-made installations.
The residence, personal home to Ambassador Mr. Giovanni Castellaneta and his family, is the location for regular diplomatic and State dinners. The resulting design is a kitchen equally at home with industrial needs and domestic ones—a kitchen designed with well thought out functional and rational work zones that expands to meet the needs of chefs and wait staff catering to the needs of hundreds, but which can equally retreat into domestic intimacy providing service and enjoyment for the Ambassador’s family on a daily basis.
With a legacy of craftsmanship since 1816, Arclinea Arredamenti SpA, based in Caldogno, Italy, is an industry leader in the worldwide kitchen market known for its cutting-edge design, use of exquisite materials, innovative technology and ecological commitment. The Arclinea Collection is designed and coordinated by internationally celebrated architect Antonio Citterio, designer of products for B&B Italia, Maxalto and Flos, among others. The Collection has been awarded a number of prestigious design awards including the “Metropolitan Home Modernism Award” and the “Elle Décor Edida.”
